A Columbia hotel was evacuated after heavy smoke billows through the building. This happened Tuesday afternoon around 1:00 at the Quality Inn near I-70 and Providence Road. Fire crews had to climb onto the roof of the building to battle the blaze. All guests and staff were safely evacuated. No one was injured. The cause of the fire was an electrical malfunction on the roof above the lobby that ignited the roofing materials. Damage is estimated at around 20-thousand dollars.
