A large part of central Ashland was evacuated following a major gas leak.
Construction workers hit a gas main at about 9:45 yesterday near Main Street and Redbud Lane. That’s right by Southern Boone Middle School and Ashland City Hall.
Southern Boone school officials evacuated students from the middle and high schools until Ameren approved the air quality in the high school at 10:45, and the middle school after that. The district says everyone was safe. City Hall, businesses and homes closer to the leak were also evacuated until Ameren could check them out.
Workers shut the gas off within a couple of hours, before trying to repair the line.
