NEW YORK (AP) – A black camerawoman who works for CNN says she was “not surprised” to have two people at the Republican National Convention throw peanuts at her and say “this is what we feed animals.”
Security immediately removed the two white people from the Tampa, Fla., convention arena on Tuesday but didn’t reveal their identities.
Camerawoman Patricia Carroll says she hates that it happened. The Alabama native told Maynard Institute blogger Richard Prince on Thursday it could have happened on a street corner or at the Democratic convention, scheduled for next week in Charlotte, N.C.
Carroll says she hopes it’s a wake-up call for black people.
GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s campaign says it has apologized to CNN for what happened. A Romney campaign strategist calls the two white people’s behavior “reprehensible.”
