The Boone County Fire Protection District may have to give more than 200 thousand dollars back to the federal government. This is based on preliminary information from the 2009 US Department of Homeland Security Audit. The report covers grants and reimbursements provided to the district that were used to support Missouri Task Force One.
The original audit in 2009 called for more than 700 thousand dollars to be returned to FEMA. Fire District officials say once they have a detailed report from the government, it will be reviewed by the board of directors.
