Building Inspections Begin at MU
Structural reviews of about 250 buildings owned or leased by the University of Missouri are underway, following a walkway collapse that led to the death of a Columbia firefighter.
Lieutenant Bruce Britt responded to the structural problem Saturday morning at University Village Apartments, and was hurt when a section of walkway fell on him. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
University of Missouri spokesman Christian Basi says if the building inspections turn up more safety problems, they’ll be fixed quickly.
“We will not wait for a final report or anything like that,” Basi says. “If a safety issue is observed, it will be dealt with immediately.”
The inspections will also cover buildings not on campus, such as MU Extension locations and research farms.
