The Zimmer Radio Grup has teamed up with the Red Cross and Gerbes Stores with a fundraising drive from 6a-6p Thursday, May 26th at all Gerbes locations in Columbia and Jefferson City. Additional ways to get involved:

Monetary donations may be made via text: Text REDCROSS to 90999 or call (800) RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Blood donations to the local Red Cross are encouraged, especially type O.

You can call also 2-1-1, or (800) 427-4626, operated by the United Way, for general information. Those with medical skills interested in volunteering can go online at https://www.showmeresponse.org/. A $10 donation will be made to the United Way if you text the word JOPLIN to 864833, or you visit uwheartmo.org.

Cash is the best because it offers the most flexibility for the most-needed resources and pumps money into the local economy. Unsolicited goods such as used clothing or unsorted food supplies requires more effort by agencies to sort, package, transport and distribute items, which might not be what survivors need the most.

Community:
The Missouri Department of Agriculture is holding a food drive for the Food Bank of Central Missouri. They will accept canned goods and other non-perishable items through Wednesday morning at 1616 Missouri Blvd., 3rd Floor, Jefferson City, Mo. Contact Misti Preston at (573) 751-8596 or Misti.Preston@mda.mo.gov with questions. Donations can also be made directly to the the food bank, found at http://www.sharefoodbringhope.org/ or (800) 764-3663.

Heart of Missouri United Way, KOMU and Museao will be holding a fundraising event and telethon Thursday, May 26th, 5-9 at the Museao on Buttonwood Drive in Columbia.
Christian Chapel in Columbia is taking donations of non-perishable foods, bottled water, personal hygiene products and baby supplies Tuesday from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m., in the big red trailer at 3300 S. Providence Road. It goes through Thursday, May 26. All supplies will be delivered to Convoy of Hope, already on the ground in Joplin. You can also make a $10 donation by texting “Convoy” to 50555 or go online to www.convoyofhope.org or C2Church.com

The local United Methodist Church is also asking for donations. 100% of all donations to Missouri UMC will be sent directly to the victims. Call (573) 443-3111 or visit www.moumc.org/store

Blue Ridge Christian Church is collecting bottled water, fruit, baby formula and toiletries. Anyone who can help is asked to e-mail brcc@socket.net.

Custom Complete Autmotive locations have teamed up with the Food Bank of Central and NE Missouri to accept non-perishable food items at any of the four Columbia Custom Complete Automotive locations.

Harpo’s will be hosting a benefit to Joplin Tornado Victims Wednesday night, June 1st with live music.
Schools:
Columbia Public Schools has partnered with the Central Missouri Food Bank and Jefferson City Public Schools to gather supplies for relief. Donations can be brought into your school building or directly to the district’s administration building, 1818 West Worley Street, on Wednesday, May 25 (all day) and Thursday, May 26 (morning only). If you have questions, please feel free to contact Community Relations at 214-3960 or e-mail Michelle Baumstark.

Jefferson City Public Schools will hold a food drive all day Wednesday and 7:30 a.m. to noon Thursday at all JCPS Schools. The Central Missouri Food Bank is asking for “grab and go” items for responders like water, juice or power drinks; high-protein food like bags of nuts, beef jerky, crackers, granola, power bars, or personal hygiene products like hand sanitizer, paper products like Kleenex, plates, napkins, cups or toilet paper. They prefer items with no glass that do not require heating. Call David Luther at (573) 659-3018 with any questions.

Mizzou is selling ‘One State. One Spirit. One Mizzou.’ tornado relief T-shirts for $14.95 starting Thursday afternoon at the Memorial Stadium Team Store or at mutigers.com. All proceeds will go to the United Way’s Joplin fund.

Local Drives:
MU’s Center for Family Policy & Research is accepting diapers, formula, stuffed animals, books and other items for children at 1400 Rock Quarry Road, Entrance 6, from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Thank you for answering the call….

On June 30th, KOMU, the Eagle and Clear 99 sponsored the Central Missouri Honor Flight Call To Action. From 6A to 11P we asked you to call to make a donation, and over $17,000 was raised!! This will help send over 50 WWII vets to visit their own memorial.

To date, Central Missouri Honor Flight has flown more than 520 WWII vets to Washington, D.C. In the last year, we’ve lost 13 of those vets. Your generosity will help us work quickly to finance flights to get the remaining vets to their memorial.

Thank you…from the Eagle, KOMU, and of course – the Veterans who will benefit from this honor.

Despite being hampered by cool, rainy weather, WingStock II was a tasty success this past Saturday. Hundreds of patriots made it out to Mid-America Harley-Davdison to catch some live music and enjoy a dozen different wing recipes. All counted, the event raised another $6,700 for Central Missouri Honor Flight. That’s enough to send another 20+ WWII veterans to see their memorial in Washington D.C. Thanks to everyone who joined the effort, dreamed up and organized by Russ at Truman’s Bar & Grill.
