Columbia police to have DWI Checkpoints over Labor Day weekend

Law enforcement around the state will be patrolling the roads over the upcoming holiday weekend. DWI Sometime between now and Saturday, Columbia police will conduct a sobriety checkpoint.

Boone County Deputies got more than they bargained for.  They were looking for a Columbia man for an outstanding warrant for unlawful use of a weapon, and when they found him, they also arrested him for drug possession.  

Jefferson City Standoff Ends with man facing multiple charges

He might have thought he has reasons for a stand-off with police but now a Jefferson City man faces charges.  46 -year-old Donald Heidbreder faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child, resisting arrest, domestic violence and weapons offenses.

Washington permanently suspended from MU football

Mizzou announced today that the suspension of running back and team captain Derrick Washington is now permanent. That means his football career, at least at MU, is over. Washington is charged with one count of felony deviant sexual assault in connection with an incident that allegedly happened earlier this summer. A University spokesman says Washington is allowed to stay in school and keep his scholarship as long as he remains enrolled in classes and meets academic requirements.

New documents in Bustamante case

Cole County prosecutors have released new documents that say Alyssa Bustamante’s defense attorney wants to protest DNA tests on a knife and clothing collected as evidence in the murder case against her.  Bustamante’s attorney says there will not be enough DNA evidence for additional independent testing.

Missouri education leaders make plan to improve pubic education

What’s the future of education look like in Missouri? That was the focus of a meeting in Jefferson City on Monday.  About 120 school superintendents and school board members met to find ways to improve public education.  It’s called the Public Education Vision Project.

Columbia City Council hashing out budget for next fiscal year

Columbia’s City Council, city staff and the public are in the process of hashing out a budget for the next fiscal year. Among the proposals are increases in some city utility rates. That’s got some people asking why the City needs to own utilities in the first place, since some private providers are a little cheaper right now.

Columbia police investigating Wendy’s armed robbery

Columbia police are investigating an armed robbery. Two people robbed the Wendy’s restaurant near the Columbia mall early this morning. Police say a black male and black female went up to an employee who was outside and forced him back into the restaurant at gunpoint.
