With a new high school comes some frustration over transferring students – that’s what Columbia Public Schools will deal with as Battle High School opens in 2013.

Thursday, the school board announced the new transfer policy now that the new boundaries are in place. Ninth graders who will go to Hickman or Rock Bridge under the new boundaries next fall can apply to start going there this coming fall.

Also, some students can request a transfer to go to the same school as their older sibling. Transfers will not be allowed for athletic purposes. The deadline to apply for a transfer is March First.

The form to apply for a transfer can found by clicking here.

Three more arrests are made connected to Columbia’s recent gunfire.

Nineteen-year-old Aaron Harris and 20-year-old Ahmonta Harris are both believed to be involved in the shooting at Boone Tavern earlier this month. Both were arrested yesterday afternoon. Police believe they are part of an assault that led to the shots being fired.

In a separate arrest, 17-year-old Steffon White is being held on $100,000 bond. He’s suspected of being a part of a January shooting near McBaine Avenue and Dean Street. Police believe White fired at least one of the shots in that case.

This brings the total arrests related to recent cases of shots fired to five this week. Malcolm Redmon and Channing Taylor were arrested Tuesday.

Associated Press

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Six siblings who claim they were sexually molested decades ago by older relatives on a Missouri farm say they are eager to tell their stories in court.

Days before a judge is to rule on defense motions to dismiss charges against one of the accused, the alleged victims broke years of silence in a joint statement to The Associated Press, saying they’re ready for trial.

Burrell Mohler Sr. and his sons Burrell Jr., David, Jared and Roland Mohler, were charged in November 2009 with dozens of counts of rape and sodomy for acts the siblings say were committed more than 25 years ago.

David Mohler’s attorney claims the alleged victims haven’t complied with orders to turn over years of health records, so charges against his client should be dropped.

State Senate Appropriations Chairman Kurt Schaefer says he supports increasing Missouri’s cigarette tax.

The Columbia Republican says he backs a higher tax on cigarettes to get more Missourians to stop smoking. Schaefer says reducing the number of smokers would help state government save money by cutting some costs through the Medicaid health care program.

He says a higher tax also would generate a little additional revenue.

Missouri’s cigarette tax of 17-cents per pack has remained unchanged while most states have increased taxes on tobacco over the past decade. Nationwide, the average tax now is $1.46 per pack.

(AP) – Hackers affiliated with the Anonymous hacking group obtained more than 150 police officers’ personal information from an old website for the West Virginia Chiefs of Police Association and posted it online.William Roper, the association’s president, tells the Charleston Gazette (http://bit.ly/zLZxrB ) the FBI is investigating. Roper is also the police chief of Ranson, W.Va.

Roper says a group called CabinCr3w hacked the website Monday and obtained the home addresses, home phone numbers and cellphone numbers of current and retired police chiefs. The association has a new website but members’ information was stored on the old website’s database.

Several Sedalia residents say they were shocked to find fliers promoting the Ku Klux Klan on their property during Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The fliers were found Monday in several neighborhoods, mostly in eastern Sedalia.

Sedalia police Lt. William Chapman says whoever distributed the fliers put them on windshields, or in paper bags weighed down with rocks. That meant the KKK advocates did not trespass on private property and couldn’t be charged with littering.

Chapman says because no laws were broken, police won’t investigate the fliers.

The Sedalia Democrat reports that one of fliers was left at the home of Lisa Flores, who was on the committee that planned the city’s MLK Day parade. She says she was shocked and disappointed the fliers were distributed.
