Columbia is now being sued by two former employees unhappy about being fired. Former 911 director Zim Schwartze is suing for wrongful termination, and former police officer Rob Sanders is trying to get his job back on the force.
City Manager Mike Matthes says we’ll have to wait and see what plays out in court.
“Generally we don’t discuss ongoing legislation. I will just remind everyone that anything can be alleged in a lawsuit. The beautiful thing about the court is you actually have to have evidence of some kind, or fact to prevail, and so, you know, I’m pretty confident about both things,” says Matthes.
He and Police Chief Ken Burton are named as defendants in Schwartze’s case, and Sanders has said that the two have worked against him to keep him off the force.
