Lawyers for a Cole County teenager charged with 1st degree murder want the suspect to appear in court in her own clothes. 16-year-old Alyssa Bustamante has a pretrial hearing scheduled Monday. She’s accused of October’s murder of her 9 year old neighbor. Defense lawyers are asking the judge to let Bustamante wear her own clothes at all court appearances. They say pretrial images of the teen in jail clothing would weaken the presumption of innocence. Last October, after a 2-day search, the body of 9 year old Elizabeth Olten was found in a wooded area near her home just west of Jefferson City. Bustamante pleads not guilty. Police say she led them to the body.
