American Airlines is cleared for takeoff. The Columbia City Council approved an agreement with the carrier on Monday. American plans to provide service from Columbia Regional to Dallas and Chicago as soon as February.
The deal will pay American from a $3 million fund if the airline doesn’t make enough money on the nonstop flights, and provides other incentives. City Manager Mike Matthes says it’s a unique arrangement…
Delta Airlines already flies to and from Columbia, and told the city it would have to leave town unless it gets a similar incentive deal. City leaders say they’ll talk with Delta representatives on Wednesday.
