There are more flights coming to Columbia Regional Airport.

At a press conference yesterday, city leaders announced American Airlines plans to offer daily flights to Chicago and Dallas from Columbia, starting in mid-February. 50-seat planes will serve the non-stop routes.

Mayor Bob McDavid says the added flights are contingent on city council approval of an airport improvement plan. More details of that plan should be released today. A recent city study estimates that renovating Columbia Regional will cost at least $17 million. The airport is now served only by Delta Airlines, with a Frontier Flight to Orlando starting on November 2nd.
