Damned if they do…

The economy will recover, eventually.  Jobs will return, eventually.  TARP and other targeted spending will not make it happen.   When congress reins in spending and cut corporate taxes the money will flow and the economy will heat up.  Deep down inside I think Democrats know this but they can’t bring themselves to do anything about it.  If they DO cut taxes and spending with a positive result they can’t rely on class war fare in the future.  They’re stuck.  Damned if they cut taxes (proves they’ve been wrong about “tax cuts for the rich”) and damned if they don’t (the economy will be stuck in this bog for years to come) effectively driving them from power. My guess is that Republicans will save the Democrats from themselves.  I suspect Republicans will make huge gains in November and cut taxes again (hopefully they will cut spending too!)  The economy will recover and save the Obama administration.  Like Clinton before him, Obama will get the credit for the recovery and get re-elected.  The Republicans will then be in much the same position as the Democrats. Damned if they do cut taxes (Dems get re-elected) damned if they don’t (We all suffer from a dead economy) and I’m anxious to see who gets damned!

I want lower taxes and spending restraint too but in our incredibly screwed up economy we need government help to avoid another depression. Even people with jobs have slowed their spending dramatically so companies drop prices and people defer spending again to take advantage of falling prices. The companies have to lay workers off and the vicious circle has begun. We could watch it all collapse and begin rebuilding but it is not hard for me to choose between the evil of deficit spending on infrastructure and letting the market correct itself the way it did in 1929. The money has been going to big banks and I blame both parties for that.

While the country goes broke spending money we don’t have, and Obama pleadging foreign aid to a corrupt country on the backs of Americans. I was just wondering come tax time does this aid count as charitable donation to write off?

To jump on the “money going to big banks” idea, what do you think about setting up a state (Missouri) run bank like North Dakota?

It would require all state and local agencies in Missouri to bank through it and all profits returned to the general funds. No more $M’s of taxes going to bonuses for CEO’s in NY, profits stay with the state and controlled by our reps. No FDIC, funds guaranteed by state/taxpayer. Accountability of operations returned to the voting community instead of shareholders.

Instead of the upcoming bond initiative for CPS and interest payments going to a private firm (in NY), it would stay in the state.
