Tom, I’m writing today to let you know how much I wish I could support your effort with “Running for Robert”. I’m so strapped for green backs right now I can not help. But I want you to know how much you are appericated and I thank you for your dependablity everyday on the radio. Someday I would like to meet you because I know you are a good hearted person and I like to surround myself with folks like you. Man, I never thought I would live through times like we are all living through now. I worry everyday how my children are going to make it when I’m gone. I’ll wrap up this letter by letting you know I may not be able to give money but I will give my prayers and continue my dedication to this station as a listener. God Bless you all at the eagle stay safe.

Tom, I was listening to you on the radio this morning when you were talking about the judge in Australia ruling against Men At Work for playing “The Kukaburra Song” in the rift of “The Land Down Under”. I actually sang the Kuka song (much to my embarassment!). When I got home tonight, I played the Men At Work song and the Kuka melody is actually in there twice, once right at the beginning and again in the middle of the song as a flute solo. I would never have heard it if I hadn’t remembered the original song. So now you know…also the Kukaburra is a bird that is indigenous to Australia and is a member of the kingfish family. It is known as the laughing jackass, because of it’s unique call.

    Tom,

We are working hard here in Robert’s hometown of Mexico to get pledges and donations for Running for Robert! Robert’s step mom will be there on my team and there is atleast one more team of runners from Mexico.

Thanks for doing this. I am confident this is going to be a huge success!

I am hoping to cover 15 miles that morning. That will be the farthest that I have ever run at one time, but I can’t think of a better cause!

As far as your comments this morning about being concerned about injuries between now and then. That is NORMAL! Some days you will have twinges and aches. You are probably more conscious of it now since you have a big event on the horizon!

Look forward to running with you!

    Tom,
Your caller about teachers unions in Missouri does not hold water as State statues do not allow for organized unions for teachers in Mo. McCaskill is partly correct as we the public are tired of polititians and that includes her!
    Thanks, K

Tom I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents about the halftime show. The Who vs. Bruce Springsteen. Maybe the who is a little old & unpolished. I think it is called aging. I was a fan of both bands for a long time but I have lost a lot of respect for Bruce & his $200 a person “Trash America & Our Troops” tours. I do not recall The Who comming into our country burning flags & trashing our nation. I know it has become very popular & PC to Hate America, The Constitution & all that but my Hat goes off to the Who and both thumbs down for Bruce. In case you forgot about it, here is a link of The Who performing for NYC I think in Oct 01. I hope you can find & send me a link of Bruce post-radical days doing something like perform for our service men & women and maybe offer a little praise instead of propaganda.
    Thanks

  7. Brad says:

    Hi Tom,
Just wanted to add my 2 cents on the halftime show. Here is a youtube link of The Who performing for Firefighters in NYC Oct 01. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cG_uDDEnzC4
I am sure you have seen it. But check it out again and send me a link of Bruce performing for our troops post radical days, if he ever has. I did not see last years halftime show but the last time I did see Bruce i got up & left the show after he stopped singing and started going on a political radical anti American tirade. My hat goes off to The Who. I just wished that I could play half as good as they are now.
    Thanks

    Subject: New Element Found

Heaviest Element Yet Known to Science Discovered

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California has now identified with certainty the heaviest element known to science.

The new element, Pelosium (PL), has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons, and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312.

These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons.

Pelosium is inert, and has no charge and no magnetism. Nevertheless, it can be detected because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A tiny amount of Pelosium can cause a reaction that would normally take less than a second, to take from 4 days to 4 years to complete.

Pelosium has a normal half-life of 2 years. It does not decay, but instead undergoes a biennial reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places.

Pelosium mass will increase over time, since each reorganization will promote many morons to become isodopes.

This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to believe that Pelosium is formed whenever morons reach a critical concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as critical morass.

When catalyzed with money, Pelosium becomes Senatorium, an element that radiates just as much energy as Pelosium since it has half as many peons but twice as many morons.

  11. Mike says:

The Criminal Investigation (CI) unit of the IRS was founded in 1919. They are trained armed agents and have arresting power. the unit was started by transfering 6 agents from the Postal Investigation unit. The CI unit was mainly reaponsible for the fall of Al Capone.

    Tom,
Just wanted to drop you a line to thank you for having Todd Burke on your show. His visits are always informative, entertaining and professional – in that order. Of course, that describes Todd to a “T”. Keep bringing him back as often as you can get him in the studio.

  13. James says:

Sen McCaskill certainly is nimble. Her tune is different then just 6 months ago. Of course, you have to read between the lines. What she delivered was a veiled threat. “Reject our federal healthcare mandate and we will withhold all the other federal healthcare dollars (eg medicaid)”
Too condescending for my taste. “If we could just explain the components of health reform (read dumb down) everyone would support it.”
The current health reform effort and the good senator’s views epitomize the admonition against being over opinionated and under informed. Personally, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything more preposterous and idiotic in my life. Why should my opinion hold any weight? Well, how many national healthcare systems have any of them ever reformed? Answer’s none. I’ve done four. I served as an international health care finance and reform consultant for 15 years. During that time I have scrutinized virtually every healthcare finance there is. I have also served as an insurance executive for Blue Cross Blue Shield for 6 years and practiced medicine in military, federal, private practice, and welfare clinic settings. I have established managed care companies and commissioned construction of hospitals and clinic chains in a dozen countries. So I know something of what I speak of. There whole effort to date is ill conceived in the extreme. They don’t know what they’re doing.

  14. Brian says:

This Health care bill is a Trojan horse. They know people wont buy the coverage until they need it, they have even lowered the fine in this new bill.

So in result insurance companies with go bankrupt or will need an increase in funds from the government aka higher taxes, and what will result is since no one buys coverage until they need it, the government will be “forced” to employ a national health care plan which will be paid for by taking money directly out of your pay check, just like SS and Medicare.

This bill is just a means to an end. All they need to do is flip the first domino and wait for the others to fall.

  15. Leslie says:

Please keep talking about health care. The government isn’t telling us the truth, so we need to hear it somewhere!

  16. Bruce says:

Tom. I received my sample ballot, but I live in the county, so it’s less controversial than the city ballot. But found something I thought you would find interesting. My Boone County ballot includes “County of Boone Hospital Trustee, 5 Year term”. Seems to me I am already paying for govt. healthcare because the only other “Board Members” I am asked to vote for I already have a vested interest in, (IRAs, Stocks, Life insurance, even electric CO-OPS are invester owned,) therefore I can vote for The Board Members. I shouldn’t need national healthcare or insurance,I’m already paying the county. Listen to both you and Mike, usually can’t get in on the phone so tried E-Mail

    Hi Tom,
I listened to your show for the first time this morning (it was pretty good by the way) and you asked about Holy Monday. It is also celebrated in the Orthodox Christian church all over the world, and here locally at St Luke’s Greek Orthodox Church. If you want more information about holy week, wikipedia actually has pretty good entries on each day of Holy Week. They’re not too long and tell you the basic idea. If you would like to experience any of these services for yourself, you are always welcome at St Luke’s. The Holy Monday service was last night at 7 pm, but the Holy Tuesday service is tonight at 7, and the Holy Wednesday service is at 7 pm Tuesday night. Starting Wednesday there are multiple services per day. (I am so happy that spring break has finally coincided with Holy Week so I can go to more of these.) For more info you can visit the parish website at http://www.stlukecolumbia.org. Happy Holy Week to you and yours. :) -KAte Livingston

Interesting discussion this morning about terrorist militia vs patriotic militia.

For over 100 years in the US, there was an official “Muster Day.” This was the day for enrollment in the militia of all able bodied men aged 18 to 45, according to a law established in 1792 and in effect until after the Civil War. It was a holiday gathering for the entire family but also included the inspection of each member’s gun and ammo to be sure they were prepared. They did some military training and reaffirmed their allegiance to the US and their militia group. At that time not only could the population “bear arms” but they were required to do so. Once again, the wisdom of our founding fathers…..

    Hey Tom,

Could the coalition for the removal of tasers from Columbia, MO actually be attempting to get back to more ‘deadly force’ on the streets of Columbia?

    Just a thought.

  20. Karla says:

Tom, Are you aware of any tea party plans in Columbia for April 15th? The Tea party movement website talks about events in Springfield and Kansas City. We attended the event last year at Flat Branch park and felt that it was a great chance to voice our opposition to government continued out of control spending. In view of the recent passage of the Health Care Bill and probable attempts to pass more “stimulus” legislation, it is even more important to prove that the people who ask for more responsible government are not “fringe right wing kooks”. Would love to know if there are plans to organize a tea party rally here in BOCOMO.

I was listening to you this morning on May 11, 2010 and didn’t appreciate your flip attitude towards drugs. You evidently don’t know anything about drugs and/or addiction to them. Meth ruined my 17 year marriage and continues to create nothing but pain, hardship and feelings of anger in the four grown children. It doesn’t stop there, it affects the parents of those addicted, siblings, friends and other extended family members. For those of us who have had to live with drugs whether it be legal or illegal and have that drug control someone you love and then the choices that are made because of that drug addiction, you make fun and light of a situation that is not fun and many many times, there wasn’t much light in mine or my children’s life. I was able to remove myself away from the physical environment of that and take the youngest child with me, but those kids, regardless of age, can’t remove themselves emotionally from the things that have happended and continue to happen.

I enjoy much of the programming on the Eagle, but changing the station will not be such a hard thing to do in the morning on my drive to work.

its difficult to grasp how some could be so foolish as to okay marijuana. in a day when tobacco is so demonized, why would we condone a drug that one joint equals 68 cigs (thats what i learned growing up).

and another thing, when you and 5 of your close friends carry another one of your friends to his final resting place because of the “not the gateway drug” marijuana. he started with it and it took places, the cemetary. i wish to God i had my friend back.

some arue that it grows naturally so it should be legal. opium grows naturally, should we legalize it too? lead occurs naturally, should we eat it? salt water occurs naturally, should we start drinking it and save our fresh water? poison ivy grows naturally, do you want to smoke it too? just becaus things occur naturally does not mean they are good. if you dont believe that, go run naked thru a thorn bush or climb a honey locust. common sense has to win out

dont be a fool by supporting legalizing dope.

Tom, caught your show this am as I was hauling a couple of beeves to Jennings Premium Meats for processing. Just a shortl note to say you implied that all Jennings meats are local. Jason told me this am that applies to their snack sticks only (and they define ‘local’ to be from within MO). They do ‘import’ quite a bit of beef, chicken, etc from outside the state. Just a small point of clarification.

You and Mike Ferguson ROCK! Steve

  29. Trish Admire says:

Dear Tom, my husband and I were a few of many who honored Pfc Jason Fingar on Friday. We actually went to the airport to wait for him and his family to come by so that we could show our gratitude for his service. When we arrived there, we saw a Columbia fire truck bearing a huge flag at half-mast. Many motorcyles (from the Patriot Guard Riders, the Glory Riders and the Christian Riders Ministry) were lined up in preparation for the drive. Tears filled my eyes when the hearse and then the family drove by us, with my husband and I holding our flags in hand. We were allowed to follow the procession all the way to the funeral home. It was so touching to see people, here and there, standing at attention, with hands over hearts, veterans saluting, police officers at attention, men, women and children holding flags. I know that it was probably a little aggravating for some, waiting for the procession, but it was even more touching to see some actually standing beside their vehicles while this family drove by. We stood with a group of people as they took Jason into the funeral home and I kept thinking of my own step-son and son-in-law who were in Iraq and made it home safely and cried for those who didn’t. I don’t live in Columbia, but on Friday, I was very proud of the outpouring of love and respect from the Columbians that I saw along the route. Thanks so much Tom for talking about this on Friday. I wouldn’t have missed this for the world. We must continue to pray for and support all of the men and women who protect us and fight for us each and every day. Thanks Tom and God Bless America

I was listening this morning and wanted to comment on the guy who obviously did not LISTEN to what you were saying. You were simply stating that persuing parenthood at an older age in life was not something you thought wise. At no time did you say someone should never be born. He even later said “I don’t think it’s a good idea either but …” which meant he was agreeing with you. I though he was completely our of line to take something you said and turn your words around.
I also want to commend you for escorting the veterans home from the honor flight. My husband and I were not previously aware of this and would be honored to join in on the next welcome home celebration on our Harley Night Train. See you there. And as always…..Ride Safe!

  31. Ben says:

I am writting because I wanted to inform you all about Nightrider USA. They are for lac of a better term a watchdog group that is not happy with the way many in Washington, including the current administration are doing business. They feel as if there are only a few in Washington that are really listening to the American people and have assembled a Motorcycle Rally called the Freedom Rally. What is special about this Rally is that hundreds of people from different back ground have signed up. We have doctors, lawyers, stripers, mechanics, and even pastors making this ride, setting aside thier differences and riding together because they are all concerned Americans. The Rally begins in Independence, MO on July 2 and will arrive in Washington DC on July 4, 2010. If Washington doesnt hear our voices, maybe they will hear several hundred bikes riding through Washington. I think this is a good story for you check us out if you want at http://www.nightriderusa.com. Thanks for your time and I hope to hear from you soon.

  33. Tammy says:

We joined the Patriot Riders last evening at Kingdom City on our harley to escort the Honor Flight home. What an experience! I was amazed at the amount of motorcycles that showed up-right at 200.
It is phenomemal- the amount of effort that goes into making this escort happen. I looked off the back of that bike and saw nothing but flashing lights for as far behind as I could see and as far up front as I could see. The highway patrol, the local county sheriffs departments and city police are wonderful to close each ramp and secure each light to dedicate the road to those three buses and their motorcycle escorts. This really made me feel secure not having to deal with traffic that late at night with this many bikes. My son stood on the Millersburg ramp and video taped the procession coming down the highway. He said it was like thunder rolling, you could hear it way before you could see it and it was amazing. It took 5 minutes and 4 seconds from the first police car and motorcycle to the last bus. Amazing! I will never forget the experience and we will definitely be at future Honor Flight events. I also want to applaud you for the hard work you did-assisting each one of those gentelmen off of the bus. A few were challenges, but you were relentless and when we got the last gentleman off, with a bit of difficulty, he had as many cheers as the first one off the bus. Thank you!

I thought that you might seem interestead in new experiences. We are picking our grapes on 8/20/1011, this Saturday. We sale our grapes to Mount Pleasant Winery in Agusta Mo. . Last year we had over 95 people picking grapes. We start them out at 8 a.m. with breakfast, biscuits and gravy, and later we finish picking and call them in for BBQ, Beer, and a band. We have swimming and fishing when they want to take a brake and cool off. When you pick, we have a photographer take your picture and the next year you get your own wine bottle from the grapes you picked, with your picture on the label. We have a great time and we have been doing it for 6 years, Each year it keeps getting bigger and better! Hope to see you and please email us at jmepaint@ yahoo.com. Cell phone is 573-220-3319.
