    Reform This !!

We have all heard allot about “reforming the health care system” here in the good old U.S of A, but health care is not a system any more than food or housing is a system. It is rather products and services that are provided by free individuals and consumed by free individuals as they see fit.

A “system” assumes that decisions as to what is provided and how it is used are directed by one central body – namely the federal government – for the whole of the country. To “reform” in this case means to control more efficiently.

We must understand that ,by definition, this takes away control of the product from those who provide health care and takes away the freedom of choice from those who use it.

The freedom of a doctor to provide what care he deems best and of a patient to pursue the course of treatment he deems in his best interest should not be given up lightly for promises of lower cost or more efficiency.

History teaches us a freedom once given up is very difficult to get back. Once the government has assumed a power they keep it.

Make no mistake, the man who pays the piper calls the tune. Where the government is paying for health care (with your money) they will direct what is delivered, how it is delivered and who gets it.

The so called single payer system (the government being that payer) is the stated goal of those pushing this type of “reform” and has been for years. With that kind of control comes great power and makes you dependent on the state for your health care, for your very life.

The dirty little secret is their agenda is not to make health care better but to take it over.

What problems we do have is from a lack of freedom of choice and the information to make those choices – not from a lack of central control.

We have the best health care in the world because doctors and researchers have been free to innovate and excel to the highest levels of expertise and reap the benefits of that work, both personally and financially.

The doctor ,in consultation with the patient and his family, have always had the ultimate power to decide what type of treatment is best. And having freedom of choice, the patient and his family can fire a doctor if they feel he is not acting in their best interest.
It’s true that insurance companies and HMO’s can restrict what treatment they will pay for, but you can still choose the policy and company you want. Also the treatment does exist if you can pay for it.

When the federal government is paying for all health care and mandating what care you can have, what are your choices? Go to a different country?

Much of the debate has centered around would a government sponsored health care system be more or less costly or efficient. While I believe it would be much less efficient and of poorer quality, that is really beside the point. The question is are you really willing to give up the freedom to control your own health care? Your body? Your life? Do you trust the government that much?

It’s as if one day the government came and took you house and put you into communal state housing – explaining that it was more cost effective. Would your argument be “I think my old house is more cost effective” or “ you have no right to take my house, I am free to live where I choose?

The classic tactic of a Stateist is to first demonise the thing they want to take over. The pharmaceutical companies, the health insurance companies, the greed of doctors etc. They put forward stories about innocent people who have been mistreated, maimed and killed. They report on the obscene amount of profit made. Once they convince us we should hate them, they offer to punish them in our behalf. Graciously taking over the evil industry to save us, assuring us how much fairer everything will be once they run it.

In fact where real problems with the industry do exist, it is not in the governments interest to do anything to make it better until they run it.

Cost being one of the biggest problems with health care, when have you seen those working for “health care reform” supporting a cap on malpractice awards? Or making the burden of proof more difficult? In fact they universally oppose such measures, even though doctors can pay $100,000 a year or more for malpractice insurance. Does this not most certainly raise the prices they must charge?

Beware of big brother the savior who comes in the middle of the night to make it all better. As a wise man once said “ those who give up liberty for security shall have neither”.

  2. RE: Shock Collar
As senior citizens, we are beginning shopping for a retirement center. Our son, living in a community that is being revitalized, said we should buy the property next to them. When we loose our memories, they will set up a security “fence” and put a shock collar on us!! I have to laugh as you are working on getting the thing to work!!

Tom, I have finally been pushed enough to speak out and I want you to read the results. I’m sending you a copy of the letter that I sent to the Union that just passed for Home health workers. Its a shame how the corruption is starting to run through our veins. I’m very upset about this whole thing and I have sent a copy of this letter to the Glenn Beck program I spoke with Keith and he told me to send it to Adam Clark. My family will do without this income if we are forced to pay DUES.

  5. Janice Jarman says:

    Tom,
    About the Town Hall meetings…
I believe that people are now shouting because we (the people) have discovered that politely disagreeing does not work with the current political regime. (yes, regime). Did the majority of we, the people want the bail-out, the “stimulus” plan, or the “cash for clunkers”? No, the majority of us did not. Did we express our opinion to the current regime? Yes, we did. Did they listen to us? No they did not?!? Three strikes and you are out, and now we shout! And come next election, I think we ought to vote out EVERYONE who is in office and ignoring their contituents (we the people). Bring in a new batch (libertarians, constitutionist perhaps?)
Thanks for letting me express myself.
SHOUT IT OUT, 3 STRIKES, YOU ARE OUT!!

  6. Bev Martin says:

Tom, we the people will not need to shout at Townhall meetings if we can roar in the ballot box! Let’s get the FairTax on the ballot by 2010. Please help move this ‘voice of America’ by announcing:

“Callaway Citizens for FairTax meets tonight, 7:00 at the Callaway County Library, Friends Room B 710 Court Street, Fulton, MO”

  7. Bev Martin says:

Love your ride’s name ‘CrazyHorse’. Ive been on three of the Crazy Horse Memorial ride, a four day trail ride in SD where we start Ft. Robinson where Crazy Horse was killed, and ride through the Pine Ridge to his winter camp. (Beaver Creek) From there we ride into Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Imagine 200+ horsemen/women/ children riding across those open plains. LIttle differenet ride than yours, but awesome too!

  8. Gene O'Neill says:

The purpose of this e-mail is to let you know there will be a fairTax informational meeting Wed. Aug,26 7:00pm At the Centralia Public Library. We are looking to draw folks from Sturgeon, Centralia and Mexico and form a group in all three towns. It would be most helpful if you could mention this event on your show.
From Gene O’Neill your FairTax Freedom fighter.p.s my right wing mob name is bugsy.

  9. Casey Nelson says:

I have an idea that seems to be fair at least to me regarding the healthcare overhaul!

Let’s just put it to a vote at the next election and if the people pass universal healthcare then it passes. If it fails then the topic is dead!!!!

Of course that will never happen though because of Obama’s left wing agenda and his overall desire to bankrupt this country!

    What do you think??

  10. Bear says:

    Tom
Thanks for coming out to Wingstock, I had a great time meeting you. I told my boys I met you and they know I listen to you in the morning, I also told them that you said thanks for their service and they were very stoked that someone like you ( A radio host) would take the time to thank them and they said to tell you keep fighting the good fight and thank you for your patriotism. I salute you bro for all that you do (Standing up for the little guy) The pleasure was truly all mine. Thanks again.

  11. Cathy Cook says:

    Hi Tom,
I heard you talking about the needs of the kids in our public schools today and the No Child Left Behind act.
Talking about the needs of kids always gets me excited! I was a special education teacher in the Columbia Public schools, the needs I saw while teaching were tremendous…and they lead me to seek a solution.
A long story short…the program I offer now is the Davis Dyslexia Correction Program. The founder of our program, Ronald D. Davis is doing a speaking tour of the US. He will be here in Columbia on October 17, in Boonville the 19th.
Not only did Ron correct his own dyslexia but he also overcame severe autism from childhood.
I think you would be very interested in his story.
If you’re interested in learning more I would love to talk with you.
    Sincerely,
    Cathy Cook

  16. Tom, the movie you spoke briefly about on Tuesday prior to the 8:00 Am news break was “Ride With The Devil” and is one of the best civil war movies of all time. Good story, and great acting. I was impressed by the “language” used as it is primarily period correct in sentence structure and phrase design. Good action as well. It got little play at the theater when it came out, but is a cult classic for those who appreciate authenticity.

  17. Michael Cerva says:

Hey Tom! I hear you talk about cameras at intersections in Columbia. Have you noticed they have changed the timing of the lights lately? They don’t stay green as long, would it be because more red lights, more chances of tickets? Thanks and keep up the good work.

  18. Blair says:

The Wake-Up Call jingle has me stumped. Could someone please translate the lyrics for me? “Good mornin’. Good mornin’. Time to …….. Good mornin’ – to you – and you!

    Time to what?!?

Thanks for the time and clarification.

  19. BOB says:

Well if I could e-mail you directly, I would post a free will definition, about what you want, not what we want. Because what you want is only a passive happening to you, and not us as a whole.

  20. John says:

Tom next time you have a representative from the Columbia Police Department on the show could you ask them why some officers are allowed to take there patrol cars home with them while others are not and for the officer that lives just south of the Ashland exit does he pay for his own gas or do us tax payers pick up the tab for him?

  21. Alan says:

Tom, Listened to your segment on Retts syndrome this morning and was interested in finding out more and participating in the Swchans event. Your guest from Schwans said to go to http://www.schwans.com to find out more. I did so and spent over 30 minutes trying to find it on their site. No luck – nothing there. I called their toll free number and told the woman that answered what I was looking for. After @ 15 minutes of unsuccessful searching she transferred me to the person in charge of fundraising.

  22. Alan says:

The woman in charge of fundraising said no it was not on their site it was on http://www.rettsyndrome.org. She did tell me that the Columbia Schwans effort would be going on at Schwans local depot 5751 E Hwy 163 on Sat. 10 Oct. For more info she said the local# is 449-2430.

  23. Alan says:

I then went to the Retts web site and again spent a fair amount of time searching and again no luck. I called them and spoke to their fund raising coordinator and she said that she had just gotten off the phone with the Schwans rep that I had spoken with earlier and that there had been a snafu and that the Retts site was working on getting it up and Schwans is also trying to get it up and get a press release out. I am passing this on to save people time and perhaps you will want to get further clarification from the local Schwans contact and get it out. It would be a shame to see them have their fund raising event basically go to waste because no one can find any info on it. Thanks for all you do.

  24. Barb Smith says:

There is a book that you might want to read. “Ten Tortured Words” By Stephen Mansfield. How the founding fathers tried to protect religion in America…and what has happen since.
I found this book at the Dollar Tree and yes for only a $1.
Poor Harley…did you change his food all of a sudden or did you mix it a little at a time with the old food. Is it an AFFC rated dog food. He is young and might be allergic to something in the new food. Did you read the label? Do you suppose Harley has gas because the new food hurts his tummy. Be a good Dad and take care of that boy.
I have 5 dogs. The two rotties 11 and 4 years from the Columbia Human Society. The 11 year old has had 2 cancer surgerys. Valerie Ann 11 and Missy 4. There is Ozzie a black Lab 4 yrs. He was dumped out when he was about 2 month old. Starving, worms and over 100 ticks. Molly 7 and her daughter Pica Jane 4 were found on I-70 at exit 89. Ozzie is allergic to many foods and I have to order his food from NJ. Dr. Meadows at UMC Vet School keep telling these dogs they are lucky I found them.
I have learned one very important lesson. NEVER have more than one 2 year old dog at a time.

  25. BOB says:

So you are saying President Obama preoccupation subjectively with his misconception of idealism, and naturalism? I just know that President Obama seems to be a humanist in his philosophy, but in on the ongoing wars, so clarification would be appreciated.

Tom I missed the beginning but I noticed you did not mention that the Insurance Company changed its rule and will not insure all children not matter the weight as long as they are deemed healthy. The interviews and story were on the Nightly News last night.

  27. BOB says:

You really cannot say that this person is immoral, only by societies values, not by her values. But what if the child contracts, and then dies, or suffers some disability from the Swine Flu? Now, it’s your turn, sir.

  28. Karen Lucke says:

Tom- You are so misinformed on the vaccine debate. Your listener Debbie had it right! Think about who pays for most of the information you hear. No one has a financial incentive to look into the research on how dangerous and ineffective vaccines really are!

There is now plenty of research showing how vaccines do not work.
There are plenty of books by Doctors including Dr. Sherry Tenpenny who practiced in Kirksville a few years ago.

I know lots of Doctors who have never vaccinated their children- here in mid MO. Our WHO- World Health Organization- rep. from Kansas City MO, Ron Logan, speaks around the world about how dangerous vaccines are.
Let me know if you want to see any of the research and historical data showing that vaccines are NOT what saved us.
Vaccines are not mandatory anywhere in this country and I will never take any!

  29. BOB says:

You are a very objective moral person, sir. I re-checked my notes of definitions, since I changed from idea to concept, but Kierkegaardian Existentialism is idea, I just confused, but you have the answers, or the interviews. So, you have the truth, and take it as far as you want, too. This should be enought for a while, see you in a couple of weeks.

  30. BOB says:

I’m not sure, but you may need some good general psychiatry help for mental state, and I know of a good Doctor, and a good Neurologist if it is brain state.

  31. BOB says:

    LOL!!!!!!!

  32. Melinda says:

Heard Claire McCaskill on FOX News this morning being interviewed about the healthcare plan. She state that she believes it has not been explained well enough and most people just don’t understand it. And then she said “For example, there won’t be a lot of tests for the same disease. That would be a waste of government money.” Wait a minute, I thought Obama said the government wouldn’t get between the people and their doctors.
When Obama speaks, he lies. Every time. I don’t think Ms. McCaskill caught what she said and the news reporter didn’t follow up on it — I think the problem is that we do understand!
Healthcare needs to be repaired but what Obama is trying to do is eliminate healthcare insurance. No — we understand very well what he is up to.

  33. Ron King says:

That editor of the local paper(you read her comments on air) better be concerned with the circulation of the major papers. Because if the major papers go under there won’t be any place for them(local papers) to get their papers printed. I don’t personally buy the larger market paper because it is to liberal and many of their articles are to negative and depressing. I would guess that they feal those type of articles sell newspapers. Also if you would look back at the history of some of the major papers you would find that most of them supported conservative not liberal ideas.

  34. Randy Westveer says:

    Tom,
Instead of smashing Baraki on Monday, why not make a contest of it and make some money for the Honor Flights? Say postpone the smashing for a coup;le weeks – go ahead and eat the beans on Monday – but raffle off the opportunity to assist you in the smahing of Baraki. Sell chances for say $1/apiece; 6 for $5; 15 for $10 and 35 for a $20 donation. I bet you would raise a couple of thousand dollars in a short period of time and have fun doing it for a GREAT cause. Keep up the fantastic job! Randy

  35. Brian says:

The guy who said our laws should reflect the Bible is crazy. Thats what the Islam countries do, and how is that working out for them? We are FREE in America, and as soon as we say our religion is the only one that is right, and therefore gives us the right to tell others how to live, we open up ourselves to a religion YOU dont like telling you what to do. Watch South Park Season 11 episode 5 Called “Fantastic Easter Special” I think you will enjoy it. As soon as you tell others what to believe, then you are saying its OK for Islam or LDS or another religion to tell you what to do.

Another thing he said was “what happens when someone wants to marry their sister” well, if he is taking the Bible as pure FACT, then he believes that Adam and Eve had sex with their children, and the children with each other. Sooo… Why cant people take the lessons of the Bible to better their own lives, and not try to control every one else?

  36. Dan Funke says:

    Tom,
Where do we draw the line in the sand? If we allow this what is next?
If people come out of the closet that pratice beasteality, and they start to demand rights, do we grant them? One of the things that realy bothers me about the liberals is that they say that we can not, and should not legislate morality, yet they push immorality. “We will not say DO NOT HAVE SEX” yet they give away condoms to our childern, servace men, collage students. In California, they do not have to notify parents if a dependant child has an abortion, and justify it by calling it a violation of there rights.
One of the best examples of what I’m talking about is this comercial that runs on TV on “One less” do not get me wrong, I’m not at all against any way of getting rid of any cancer, but this is miss leading. This is a vaccination against a form of STD that if a woman gets, it and it goes undetected, it will develope into ovarian cancer. They say nothing about educating our daughters about having sex, yet what message are we sending to our young teenage girls when we take them to get vaccinated against a STD. This country was founded on Christian and Jewish beliefs, and we where doing pretty good untill we started letting the immoral minority start to tell the rest of us how to live.
Again, when do we draw that line in the sand, and where do we do it? I’m afraid if it is not soon than we will start down a slope that there is not return from.

    Hi Tom,

Fried bologna is good but fried SMOKED bologna is better!

If you can, pick up the big 3 or 4 pound chub/log and throw the sucker into your smoker for a few hours. Cut that thing into pork chop thick slabs and fry (or not).
Put it on bread/bun of choice and top with anything but ketchup.

    Yum.

    Tom,
As for our police deptarment. It is my opinion that they have removed the “Protect and Serve” from there mission statement. I had my first City speeding ticket this year after 35yrs of driving. THe officer was very to the point and not very friendly. I think we need to check our police force attitude and see if they still believe in the Serve part of there mission statement. We all know they don’t protect u, only we can do that ourselves.

I was reading the above posts, and came across one about vaccines being dangerous and ineffective. Wow. There are plenty of good studies available through the New England Journal of Medicine and other real medical sources that prove otherwise. Too bad there’s no vaccine available to prevent stupidity. It would save the taxpayers millions.

  46. BOB says:

You, Tom, are supposed to wake me up! I got up at 8:20 a.m.. The radio was on, so I cannot blame it all on you. So, would, you figure out a way, that is not my fault, too wake me up?

  47. Ross Duff says:

    Tom,
Briefly. Thanks for dropping the gutter language. Last fall, I started turning you off when you said your third gutter word, then your second, finally got to turning you off the first time. Stopped listening altogether for about 6 weeks.
Now I can listen again. Couldn’t have you on when my grandkids were in my truck.
I really appreciate whoever talked to you about it. It was manly, macho, or whatever. Inappropriate language is just that.
    Thanks.

  48. Beth Myers says:

I apologize I did not get this here more quickly. When I called with the Mac and Cheese comment on Friday I was on my way to Columbia for the day.
M&C can be made in a lot of ways. I am a sight cook so I’m going to give estimates as far as amounts go but the sauce should be creamy so if you it’s getting a little thick, add some more cream and if it’s too liquid add some more cheese. M&C can’t be too creamy.

one box of your favorite pasta (cooked)
1 & 1/2 to 2c heavy whipping cream or evaporated milk
    1/2 c butter
two to four types of your favorite cheeses (velveeta doesn’t count for this particular recipe)
    salt and pepper
your favorite additives: breadcrumbs garlic, peppers, mushrooms, hot sauce, chili powder, etc. (not all at once but you can test it as you please)

In a frying pan sautee any additives that need sauteeing.
In a saucepan heat up your cream and melt your butter and all but a cup of your cheese. Add any sauteed additives
At this point you could add the sauce to your noodles and have a meal similar to box M&C.
If you want a fancier version, pour half of your cheese mix into the bottom of a cake pan; dump your pasta into the pan; pour the rest of your pasta sauce into the pan. Sprinkle a light layer of breadcrumbs (regular or specially seasoned) and a full layer of the rest of the cheese.

Bake at 325 for 15 minutes or so, until the cheese is melted and has a golden brown top.

The great thing about this recipe is that it can be very versatile. If you want to make it really basic use cheddar and colby jack cheese. If you want to get fancy you can add provolone, brie, or swiss. I would steer clear of certain flavored cheeses like smoked cheeses but get creative. Add peas or mushrooms, etc, but don’t go crazy and add them all in the same batch which is of course the topic of my comparison.
Simplicity is the important rule to follow.

Tom, I’d be happy to come and cook for you in exchange for some tickets :)

  49. Beth Myers says:

Tom, I lied, I’d cook for you anyway… I love to feed people, you should try my pizza, it’s awesome. I was looking for you on Facebook so if you’re up there I’d love to find your page.
