Columbia police to have DWI Checkpoints over Labor Day weekend

Law enforcement around the state will be patrolling the roads over the upcoming holiday weekend. DWI Sometime between now and Saturday, Columbia police will conduct a sobriety checkpoint.The extra enforcement will help get drunk and impaired drivers off Mid-Missouri streets and highways. The message is clear, “you drink and drive, you lose”.

Boone County Deputies find wanted man and also cocaine

Boone County Deputies got more than they bargained for. They were looking for a Columbia man for an outstanding warrant for unlawful use of a weapon, and when they found him, they also arrested him for drug possession. 30-year-old Matthew Hall was spotted getting into a car on I-70 Drive southwest. When they tried to stop him, he ran off and threw away a bag of crack cocaine. He now faces charges of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute, and resisting arrest

Jefferson City Standoff Ends with man facing multiple charges

He might have thought he has reasons for a stand-off with police but now a Jefferson City man faces charges. 46 -year-old Donald Heidbreder faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child, resisting arrest, domestic violence and weapons offenses. He’s accused of attacking family members and keeping a child inside his eastern air drive home monday night.He was tazed and arrested after he came out of the house holding a pistol.

Beta Beta Que Society BBQ & Raffle

‘Tis the season! The Beta Beta Que Society is holding it’s annual BBQ at the Bass Pro Shop in Columbia on September 17-18th. The event benefits Boys and Girls Club.Enjoy a live band and a silent auction. You can also be part of a raffle for a Weber Genesis Gas Grill (retail value $849). The drawing will be held Sept. 18th (you don’t need to be present to win).

BBQ-ers will also be taking orders for Tailgate parties for the Mizzou football game and preparing BBQ for anyone that would like to pick up a tailgate order prior to the game.

Washington permanently suspended from MU football

Mizzou announced today that the suspension of running back and team captain Derrick Washington is now permanent. That means his football career, at least at MU, is over. Washington is charged with one count of felony deviant sexual assault in connection with an incident that allegedly happened earlier this summer. A University spokesman says Washington is allowed to stay in school and keep his scholarship as long as he remains enrolled in classes and meets academic requirements.

29-year old Michael Robinson is arrested for 1^st degree Robbery for a July home invasion robbery on Mexico Gravel Road. Police went to Robinson’s apartment on Leeway Drive Tuesday afternoon but he wouldn’t come out. He surrendered around 10:30 Tuesday night. Police say Robinson got the shotguns used in the July robbery…and drove the get-away car.

Of Goats and Talk Show Hosts

OK, this is getting crazy…it seems that I can’t go anywhere without The Mexico Goat following me around. Yes. “The Mexico Goat” is now a proper noun. He’s famous!

Everybody is looking for him, but I can’t seem to shake him.

I mean, I go to the Capitol to give a speech at a TEA Party rally….The Mexico Goat is there. Maybe that’s what my daughter, Amber, was actually watching.

A couple days before, Abby Grimmett and I stopped by the lot where hundreds of Missourians were loading up the charter bus caravan to attend Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” Rally and, well, guess who was eagerly waiting to make the trip and graze on the grass along the National Mall attend the rally?

Yep, The Mexico Goat.

He won’t even leave us alone here at the World Headquarters of the Zimmer Radio Group. I’m worried that I won’t be able to keep informative and engaging guests coming to the studio if the Goat keeps this up.

In fact, earlier this month, State Representative Allen Icet and I were having an intense conversation about the upcoming football season and our fantasy draft picks the state budget, education funding and local control of schools and, who decides to barge in?

You guessed it – the Goat. Please, somebody just buy him a radio so he can listen each day!

New documents in Bustamante case

Cole County prosecutors have released new documents that say Alyssa Bustamante’s defense attorney wants to protest DNA tests on a knife and clothing collected as evidence in the murder case against her. Bustamante’s attorney says there will not be enough DNA evidence for additional independent testing.Court documents show the knife and jeans were taken as evidence in the killing of Elizabeth Olten last year in St. Martin’s. Prosecutors want to do tests without the defendant’s council present, because if there outside witnesses during the DNA testing, the lab would violate procedure.
