**UPDATE 3:00 pm**
A St. Louis woman dies after driving the wrong way on I-70 early Friday morning.
19-year-old Emily Ferguson was pronounced dead at the crash scene near Kingdom City at about 3:00 am. The Highway Patrol says she drove her SUV the wrong way in the eastbound lanes, and hit a box truck driven by a St. Peters man head on. He was taken to University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The crash completely blocked the eastbound lanes of the interstate for about three hours, and it took nearly eight hours to clear both lanes of traffic. It’s the 59th death on the roads for Central Missouri’s Highway Patrol Troop F this year.
The Highway Patrol has confirmed one lane of eastbound I-70 is now open, after a major accident near the Kingdom City exit. An SUV was driving the wrong direction on the interstate, and crashed into a tractor-trailer a little after 3:00 a.m. The tractor-trailer caught fire. The SUV driver, who hasn’t been identified yet, died at the scene. No word yet on the status of the truck driver. Eastbound I-70 was closed for about three hours early this morning because of the accident.
