A string of recent accidents on Highway 87 is forcing MoDot to take a look at what it can do to make the road safer. The Highway Patrol has worked six accidents on 87 in the past month alone, and two people have died, one in Moniteau County and one in Howard County. Sally Oxenhandler with MoDot says the lost lives are tragic, but she hopes they raise awareness about seatbelts. Both people that have died recently on 87 weren’t buckled up.
Oxenhandler says, because of major transportation funding cuts, don’t expect a big construction project on Highway 87. However, she says the recent rash of wrecks could lead to some shoulder and surface work.
