Bondsmen, Fugitive Arrested in Audrain County
***UPDATE 9:00 a.m. Monday***
Three bail bondsmen are under arrest, after roughing up a wanted man they tracked down in the Mexico area. John Downing of California, Thomas Jones of Jefferson City, and Steven Weber of Fulton all face assault charges, and Downing is charged with discharging his firearm from a motor vehicle.
The three were after John Holsman, who was wanted on several warrants. They found him at Oakcrest Trailer Court near Mexico on Friday, and Downing shot at him. Holsman got away, but the bondsmen tracked him down at a restaurant near the intersection of Green Boulevard and East Liberty Street in town and beat him up. Holsman wasn’t shot, but still had to go to the hospital after he was assaulted. He, and the three guys who caught him, are all in the Audrain County Jail.
He was no Harrison Ford, but he acted like it for a while. Audrain County Deputies say a local fugitive took a wild ride and ended up in jail Friday afternoon.
Deputies first responded to a Mexico-area trailer court for a shots fired call, and learned three bail bond agents were trying to arrest 34-year-old John Henry Holsman on a variety of warrants. Apparently, the bondsmen saw Holsman and fired some shots at him, but he got away in a car.
The three agents chased him into the Mexico city limits before Holsman ditched his car near Green Boulevard and East Liberty Street. It was the wrong move… the bondsmen chased Holsman into the bathroom of a nearby restaurant and started to beat him up. He wasn’t shot, but was treated and released at a local hospital. Holsman was then taken to the Audrain County Jail on charges ranging from stealing to failing to register as a sex offender. His bond is set at $42,500.
