VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) – Police in Michigan are looking into whether a man intentionally drove his car into another vehicle on an Indiana freeway after killing his wife and two young sons in their Detroit-area home.
Authorities in Indiana say Michael VanDerLinden and a second driver were killed about 1:30 a.m. Thursday in the crash on Interstate 94 near Michigan City.
When officers went to VanDerLinden’s home seven hours later to notify relatives they found the bodies of his wife, 7-year-old son and 4-year-old son in separate bedrooms.
Police Capt. Gregory Laurain would not say how they were killed.
He says VanDerLinden may have tried to commit suicide and that investigators “have no other leads” on “any other suspects” in the slayings.
