Columbia’s SWAT team arrests a murder suspect from Illinois near Derby Ridge Elementary School.
Police got a tip that 20-year-old Larry Belk was dropped off at a house on Risen Star Court this morning. He’s wanted for first-degree murder in Alton, Illinois. Officers confirmed Belk was at the house, then called in the SWAT team to surround it at about 11:30 a.m.
Officer Latisha Stroer says school officials put Derby Ridge on lockdown, and nobody was hurt.
Stroer says police confirmed the kids who live at the duplex were all safe in school before making any moves. Belk is now in custody on a million-dollar bond.
