The out-of-state suspect in a recent Columbia murder is back in town. Derrick Copelin, 17, is now in the Boone County Jail. He was arrested in his hometown of New Orleans a week ago, accused of second degree murder in the death of Dontay Tolston.
The 23-year-old Tolston’s body was found with a gunshot wound on Newtown Drive near Providence and Vandiver on January 2nd. Copelin, and 21-year-old Martrell Smith of Columbia, are in jail on murder charges, with $1 million bonds. A third suspect, 20-year-old Jimiah Lambert of Columbia, is still at large.
