When a commission recommended in January that the city discontinue the annual Festival of the Arts, organizers thought the accompanying commemorative poster event was strong enough to stand on its own. The winning entry in this year’s poster contest was unveiled Saturday.
Naomi Sugino, a native of Japan who is an associate professor of art at Columbia College, was selected through a jury process from among 74 images submitted by 13 Missouri artists. Sugino said she is often drawn to local cityscapes for subject matter.
