The Boone County Commission has approved a sales tax issue for the April ballot, to improve emergency response.The three-eighths cent increase would go to 9-1-1 equipment upgrades and more staffers, plus help create a new emergency management center. . Presiding Commissioner Dan Atwill says, thanks to a rapidly growing population, and the rise in cell phone use, the 9-1-1 call center simply can’t keep up anymore.
Atwill joined us on The Gary Nolan Show yesterday. Sheriff Dwayne Carey told us a couple months ago that, at times, there is only one person handling all the 9-1-1 calls for the entire county.
