Columbia Crime Spree

After trying to single-handedly raise Columbia’s crime rate a couple points, Justin Campbell is finally behind bars.

At the very least Wednesday, the 29-year-old from Columbia allegedly assaulted a man, shot another guy, and stole from a home on Old Ridge Road, all in a span of about two hours. First, a little before 11:00 a.m., he tried to rob someone on Gordon Street. When the 54-year-old said he didn’t have money, Campbell hit him in the head with his gun and took off. Then, a little before noon, he apparently dropped off a gunshot victim at University Hospital. The victim, 31-year-old Beau Leach of Columbia, told Columbia Police they got into an argument, and Campbell shot him three times in the torso. Boone County Detective Tom O’Sullivan says his agency got involved because of an incident about an hour later. Campbell allegedly robbed a home on Old Ridge Road, after showing a gun to the maids.

Campbell was finally arrested in Fulton at about 4:00 p.m. Wednesday. Local police found evidence of the crimes earlier in the day, including some items stolen from the Old Ridge Road house.

Believe it or not, O’Sullivan says it’s possible Campbell was also involved in a couple more burglaries in the South Columbia area, on Myers and Miller Lanes. Those investigations continue.
