Missouri House Speaker Steven Tilley is stepping down a few months early. Sources say Tilley wants to spend more time consulting for candidates and lobbying.
Tilley, an optometrist from Perryville, served as Speaker of the House the last two years. Term limits would have forced him out of the House in January.
Republicans, who will likely maintain control of the House in November’s elections, have selected current House Majority Floor Leader Tim Jones of Eureka as the next Speaker. Speaker Pro Tem, Representative Shane Schoeller of Willard, will preside over the House during the upcoming veto session in September.
