Spring Break Burglaries Increase in Columbia

Columbia Police step up the effort to protect homes during spring break but the number of those crimes went up, anyway.

From March 24th through April third, there were 21 residential burglaries in Columbia. That’s up from fourteen last year and ten in 2010. More homes become targets for thieves during spring break because of vacations.

This year’s burglaries are spread out over multiple parts of town.

No commercial burglaries were reported during this year’s spring break. One happened last year, which was a decrease from five commercial burglaries in 2010.
